Technical problem

Need a Tacho

How to adapt a Valiant Tacho to use in your P76

from Stuart Brown

I used the casing from a P76 Deluxe triple gauge and relocated the original high beam light to the bottom. Then I painted out the 770 from the taco, which is very close in appearance and working to the original item (I have one of those too).

Wiring

The wire is already in the loom and simply needs to be hooked up at the coil and from the Taco to the instrument connector plug.
In your loom at the plug you will find one wire missing (put one in) that hooks to a corresponding wire (white with black trace I think) and the same wire (other end if it) is at the coil, taped into the loom, (This hooks to the distributor side of the coil) the other wires on the taco are ignition-power and earth.

Servicing of the Tacho

Ringwood Speedometer Service in Melbourne can do this. 693 Whitehorse Rd Mitcham 3132 (03) 9874 2260
They did mine and it works perfectly. If you are using points it may bounce a little if your disy is in poor condition but with an electronic ignition and good disy it will be a welcome addition to your car.
I am in the process of making decals to put on the faces to exactly match the original, these will be available soon.
Very simple really, though deluxe triple gauges are a little rare!
